About Barbara, the “B” in “B. Bigelow, Editor”

Barbara was born in New York City one day after the passage of the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964. She later moved to Michigan, received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan, and embarked on her editorial career in 1988. Beginning as an assistant editor for the Detroit-based reference publisher Gale Research (now part of Cengage Learning), she served as project editor of Gale’s Contemporary Black Biography series for several years before venturing out on her own as a freelancer.

Barbara also holds a master of arts in teaching from the University of Michigan. A lover of well-edited books, clever repartee, blitzing Bichons, and all things chocolate, she lives with her human and animal family in metro-Detroit.
